What is ESP32

What it is

An inexpensive microcontroller with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on board โ€” the basis for smart devices, sensors and other "smart" electronics.

How we use it

Firmware for a client's specific task โ€” for example, a device that counts hits in a game system by itself and keeps working even when the server connection drops.

Where it helps a business

  • No ready-made device fits the task, but building one on an inexpensive board is realistic.
  • The device must work on a site where the connection to the server drops.
  • You need sensors or game equipment that send events to a server.

How we use it

We write firmware for a specific task: for example, in the studio's own game system a device calculates damage itself and keeps working even when the connection to the server is lost. The firmware is C++, and its behaviour is kept identical to the Python version through a shared protocol and automatic cross-checks in CI.

Common problems

  • No connection, no device. Logic without which the game or work cannot go on stays on the device itself.
  • Two implementations drift apart. If one piece of logic exists in two languages, without automatic cross-checks they will sooner or later behave differently.

When you do not need it

If a ready-made device with the features you need is already on sale, a custom board and firmware will not pay off.
