What it is
The language WordPress and most of its themes and plugins are written in. Not the trendiest, but every host and every web developer understands it.
How we use it
We write custom WordPress themes in PHP without third-party builders: pages stay light, with fewer updates and vulnerabilities.
Where it helps a business
- The site runs on WordPress and needs custom work: a product type, a settings panel, an API for a bot.
- Content is moving from an old CMS into WordPress.
How we use it
- A custom theme instead of plugins. For ยซะัั
ะฐะฝะธะต ะะพะฒะพะปะถััยป the theme, the Products post type, the Site panel, the API for the community bot and the structured markup are written in PHP 8.2, with no third-party plugins or page builders.
- Moving content. In the move from Joomla Python scripts parse the dumps and clean the HTML, and PHP scripts create the WordPress posts through WP-CLI. The import, the theme and the Site panel are also PHP.
Common problems
- A plugin for every trifle. Every plugin brings updates and potential vulnerabilities; a custom theme does exactly what is needed.
- A parent theme update breaks your changes. That is why changes live in a child theme.
When you do not need it
For a store or service with its own logic we use Nuxt and FastAPI in Python. PHP is for sites on WordPress.
